Bobble hats and Snake Print!

The zebra print bobble hat adds a nice edge to a outfit, and it's great for this cold weather! If you don't like the zebra print, then pick up the plain white wool one, it'll match anything...(well maybe not a bikini :P)

The Snake Print outfit comes with leggings, bra and vest. I think the leggings are really versatile for mixing and matching with other things.

I've a lot more things in the pipeline, so be sure and look out for them!

Tired, so making this post short :P
I will be adding the three tops in the picture to my store tomorrow. It'll be sold in a multipack for L$125, and it'll have all the different layers :) The colours are light purple, orange and red.

Creating your own Blog

A blog is a good idea if you want a place to share your ideas, photos, and whatever else.

There are loads of places to host a free blog, but two of the most popular seem to be Blogger (which I use) and WordPress (If you choose wordpress, be sure and go to wordpress.com, and not .org, it’s the one you have to pay!)

Once you have picked a host it is pretty straightforward from there. You chose a name for your blog – e.g. mine is ohsocouture.blogspot.com. Be sure it is a name you like and are going to stick with, because you can’t change it afterwards!

You then pick a layout or theme you wish to use – you don’t have to worry too much about this because you can change it afterwards.
My theme is Minima. I chose this because I liked the simple white background, and was planning to add my own banner.

I wanted to have 3 columns in my blog, but blogger only gave the option of 2, so I visited this helpful site which gave me step by step instructions on how to change it.

Banner

I used GIMP to create my banner, which is great because it is free.

I found some good brushes on deviantart...

And browsed dafont for the font I wanted to use in my banner, then just worked away until I had created something I liked.

Once I had it created, I went to blogger – layout - page elements, and chose the option to insert my own header instead of a title - so far so good!

You can edit your font colour and size in edit layout - fonts and colours.

Adding photos

When I was adding the photos I had taken in second life, I wanted the background of them to be white to tie it in with the theme and make it look less like a photograph. I didn’t want to spent lots of money on a photo studio, so I went to xstreet and found this one for L$1, complete with 140 poses. So now all I have to do when editing a picture after taking it is give it a quick trim in GIMP or Picknik, and that’s it!
To load the picture into your blog, you just go to edit posts, and in the toolbar next to link, there is a tiny picture. You simply click on it and then load your own. :)

I've been super busy lately trying to create my first skin - in fact I feel as though my head is going to explode - a lot of respect has to go out to full time skin makers!
I have just about completed the head, so am now adding different tones of makeup. At the minute I am going to start with 3 different skin tones - light, medium and dark, along with 5 different shades of makeup each. They'll be as follows -
bare essentials - mascara and lipgloss
natural tones - earthy colours eg; brown shadow, tan lips, a light brow blush
glam - smoky eyes, red lips, rosy blush
candy - pastel coloured eyeshadow, pink lips, pink blush
wild - fluro shadow, bright lips, crazy eyeliner!!
Every spare minute I have is spent on this skin, it's just a constant stream of edit, edit, edit :P
Once I have the makeups finished, I will put up pics :)

Some Handy Tips :)

1. Remember - there are real people behind each of those avatars you see, so try and treat others as you would like to be treated. Try and be as kind and helpful as you can. By being nice to others you will make more friends, and will enjoy SL a lot better :)

2. Once you have made a friend, have them take you to the coolest stores and sims they know - but be careful! Don't offer friendship to just anybody - a 'friend' should be a real friend, because once you become friends, they are notified when you log-in, log-off and can see where you are using the map, and teleport to you- anywhere, anytime!

3. Check out other peoples' profiles for interesting places to visit. Just right click on the person, select 'Profile' and look in their "Picks" tab. You can then teleport to any of the places they have choosen to list.

4. Try and manage your inventory - Declutter once in a while and throw things out! There are millions of freebies out there, and a lot of them aren't that good. Keep what you like and get rid of what you don't. In my inventory I have 3 files - 'Good', 'Rubbish' and 'Things I've Made'. After shopping/building, sort out the new items as soon as you can. Doing this will help keep you organised ;)

5. Don't rush into any decisions, and shop about before purchasing things - compare before you commit yourself to anything!

6. Have fun, and try out things that you have always wanted to do in RL, but have always been too afraid to.

7. An important one - do not accept unknown objects into your inventory. Somebody can give you a huge prim or maliciously scripted object, so they will be activated after rezz. Some of these objects can reproduce themselves.This can flood and crash a sim, If you do accept something, befor wearing or rezzing, check it in a sandbox first.

8.When you click on unknown object, it can ask you for debit permissions and you can accidentally accept it. This is really ugly, as the scripted object can take all your money, so be careful what you agree to, even if it promises to give you money back!

9. Try and learn a skill, such as building texturing or scripting. by learning a skill you may be able to earn a few L$, and its also a handy way to make new friends!

10. Post on the SL forums, its another great way to meet new people :D

Creating a desirable body shape

I was doing a bit of browsing and stumbled upon ArianeB's site which basically has a few tips and tricks, along with a list of free scripts. One of the things she pointed out was that with female avatars, it is often desirable to have the most attractive shape you can. She then tells you how to get a decent athletic shape for free. So... in the name of research I decided to try it out :P

The first thing to do is to right click on your avatar, select "Appearance" and click "Shape".

Then change the following settings:

BODY: height 70, body thickness 0, body fat 7

TORSO: Torso Muscles 51, Shoulders 45, Breast Size 60, Breast Buoyancy 50, Breast Cleavage 20, Torso Length 56

LEGS: Leg Length 68, Hip Width 50, Hip Length 60, Butt Size 30, Saddle Bags 20, Knee Angle 50

And this is what you get! Just a pity it wasn't as easy as this in RL :)

I started this blog last year, round about the same time I started playing SL. There was a big gap between posts, mainly because I was busy with my family in RL. But I’m back and I’ve no plans on leaving :P

So the blog…It doesn’t really centre round one sole purpose. It’s mostly a collection of my ramblings, and as I learn things in SL I’ll try and post info here that can help others! So enjoy!!

Just a very quick post to tell you about two great sites I stumbled upon. Firstly, Arikinui Adria the owner of the (now closed) Nuclear Boutique. She has some brilliant, indepth clothing and hair tutorials that you might want to go check out :)
Secondly, Obsidian Dawn is the place you want to visit if you're looking for different brushes or patterns. The brushes they list can be used in Photoshop (versions 7, CS, CS2, CS3, CS4), Photoshop Elements (versions 2 - 7), and GIMP (version 2.2.6 to present). Just don't forget to give them credit!

Skin Making

I just stumbled across Olila's SecondLife blog and thought I had to post about it :D She has some really good tutorials here, especially if your new to SL. The one I liked best, and found really easy to follow was her Skin Making, which tells you how to create a basic skin, which is great if you're like me and have never created one before :)

Another fantastic place is Sezmra Svarog's site in which she is giving away a beautiful skin, 'Splendor' which files you can use to create your own skins for your Second Life avatar, no matter what Grid you are using it on, and you're also allowed to alter these files to create your own skins in order to resell them :) The site doesn't have any tutorials at the minute, but she says she's working on them.
Also I have started trying my hand at making clothes again, so I'll keep you updated :D I can create all the basics and do some shadowing etc but I want to improve :)

Long time no see everybody! I have away for quite a while, doing some 'creative thinking' *hehe*
One of the first things I must comment on is the price of L$ :o
I was reading through some of my previous posts, and noticed it as only £11 (well, £10.99) for L$5000, less than a year ago...Today it cost me £15.99 for the same amount :(
In other news, I finally decided to upgrade to premium :D *yay* so now I am on the look out for some land :P It's a lot easier said than done, as there's so many regions. At the minute the one place I have looked at so far, that takes my interest, would be Liberty City (Region: Newfoundland) - the information card in 2L tells us that -Liberty City is the first democratic city in Second Life built and run by its residents. It features a special democratic guideline covenant where the residents have a voice, a city council, a police department and regular City Mayor elections. This unique Second Life experience comes with the focus on commercial enterprise to ensure that Liberty City will become the most dynamic and most successful city in Second Life.
I think it would be very interesting to be a part of this...as it is a commerical building I am looking for...but I don't think my search is over yet :P the thought of getting a plot of land in the wilderness, and creating some crazy, funky building is also playing through my head ;) so who knows? Only time will tell!

I have been pretty busy these past few days creating some new outfits, doing a spot of sight seeing and also building a house :D

I visited some nice places - there is just so many in 2L :) and I am still looking for a job **hint hint to any employers reading :P**

The ideas for the outfits keep coming but its so hard putting my thoughts onto the computer and getting everything just so. Ah well pratice makes perfect I suppose lol....

In other news I am thinking about upgrading and buying a piece of land - the way I have worked it out is yes, I may have to pay a big price or tiers, but at least I can sell it on a some point if I wish - whereas if I'm renting I will not get any money back if I decide to leave :)

I have came across lots of ways to make money in 2L...

The first as I'm sure you all know about is buying Lindens which you can do at the Second Life offical site. I was able to buy L$5000 for £11 or about $20. But you can also start of buying from as little as £5 or $5 :)

Now I know not everybody will want to get money this way, or even if they do, would like some other ways to bump up their income, which is why I'v complied this list -so enjoy and let the money sart rolling in :D

Camping

Its a pretty boring way to make not a huge amount of money , but as they say every little helps :P You will find camping sites all around 2L and it basically involes sitting on a chair or something similar (such as dancing on the spot) for something like L$4 every 15 minutes.

Getting a job

There is several different kinds of jobs and different rates of pay depending on the job itself. I recommend having a look through the Classifields in the Employment section or else find job listings in the 2L Forum. Jobs range from being a model or escort to scripting and building things.

Selling things

You can buy and sell basically anything in 2L - cars, clothes, houses, jewellery, pets, houses - and there is also tons of free things found at yard sales or'freebie' shops which you can then sell on to make yourself some money ;)

Land Sales

**You can only buy land if you have a premium account**

You can buy land for a set price or else pick up some at an auction. Thw way to make money here is to buy land for L$5000 (this is only an example I'm not sure of the going rate of land :P) divide it up - maybe build 10 houses on it, investing maybe L$500 in the creation of each house meaning you will have spent L$7500. You would then go on to sell each pieces of land and house on it for maybe L$1500 (or you can rent them out)which means you will have recieved L$15000, making a profit of L$7500.

Contests

You can enter contests in 2L (simply search Events and then Games/Contests) and the prize is usually a sum of money - if you are only entering the contest to earn money be sure and check what the prize is first!! Keep checking for different contests as they are reguarly updated. Contests range from treasure hunts to modelling competitions etc.

Creating a business

You can buy land or rent a shop to set up your new business in. A favourite is clothes shops, but you can basically set up a shop/business for anything you can create and sell on in 2L :D

Surveys

You can take part in surveys to make money (although be warned there has been times I have done surveys and not recieved a penny). You can do this in 2L itself or simply online. In 2L simply search for surveys ad a list of different places will show up. The best site I have visited is MetaRL , you sign up here and they pay you mP for doing things such as surveys, games, contest and raffles. The mP can then be transfered into L$ ;) I also visited linksoapbox where Sandy Holmer has a different question every month. All you do is answer it and you will recieve L$100 in a day or so (this worked for me :D). Another place is SlamX a virtual online bank where you recieve L$50 just for signing up (this also worked). Again you could try First Opinions Panel,or Earn2Life.

Well I am seriously stuck in creating my custom hair :( It's got to the stage I just don't even want to look at it again!! I keep going over the same thing and not getting it right. I can create the texture ok and I fairly understand how to use the LoopRev Script but I just seem to be going wrong somewhere...grrr...as you see patience isnt't my greatest virtue ;) I keep going over the same thing and I think I am going to have to take a break and stick with my plain 'do for a while and just concentrate making my clothes!!

here I am in my first new outfit I made :D

I'm back and a bit more knowledgable ;) I suppose we all have to start somewhere don't we?! Well I have started creating some clothes (nothing fancy just yet I'm afraid) and when I have mastered it a bit more I shall include some pictures!
I have now realised creating things is all just a case of trial and error ( alot of error in my case lol) and i have to say I owe alot to the tutorial by Natalia Zelmanov. She made things a lot easier for me to understand compared to some other tutorials I visited which I didn't have a clue about - you would need instructions just to understand some of them!
I am currently making my creations in GIMP (which is free :D) and I also found it useful to create SIMS2 clothing a while back.
When I get a chance (and a bit more hang of things) I will post my own tutorials on how to use GIMP and hopefully newbies like me will find it easy to understand!!
**I am also trying to create my custom hair at the minute using the LoopRev Script so more on that to follow :)

FIRST POST :D :D I have decided to start a blog about my travels in the world of 2L, as I think it'll be good fun to look back on and also I'd love to be able to help others, and make more friends - although I'm a bit of a newbie myself :P

I must say I'm pretty overwhelmed!! There's so much to do and see...and already all the wonderful creations are inspiring me to build, create and show off :)
But first a little bit about myself :) My SL name is Noelle Andel, and fashion and clothes are my weakness :P I also love building and making things, I would sometimes get so engrossed in making things that I lose track of time and spend hours upon hours at the computer whenever I get the chance. I have started SL as a hobby, as in RL I am a stay at home mum to two children, and it is nice to meet new people and explore different places without having to venture beyond my RL front door! So if you see me in SL be sure to say hi :D
